New Homes
656 Chestnut Street Groundbreaking ceremony. . .
On the surface, Habitat for Humanity just seems like the right thing to do. Helping a partner family to have their own new home; well, that is just a part of the American dream coming true.
The personal impact begins when doing the right thing becomes a part of your personal ministry and you get involved. Getting to know Habitat for Humanity and families, and volunteers, it is impacting and it is an experience that becomes a part of your life; you see God at work.
On Sunday afternoon March 18, 2007, the partner family of Vicki Cart, daughter Lori Casstevens and grandchildren Nick and Kelsey Casstevens welcomed their friends, community leaders, and Habitat for Humanity-Greene County board members to their new home site for the groundbreaking service and the first spades of earth to be turned.
At this point a panic began to happen. Our faithful board member who always brings the shove was out of town and no one remembered to bring a shovel; but, we were still at the site for the groundbreaking. What do we do? Nothing, for the Lord has already provided for a shovel. new neighbors were sitting on their porch watching the proceedings, and the only other item on the porch was a used long-handled shovel that was gladly loaned so the service could go on. The Lord was the central focus of this service; He wants to bless this family, the new home site, and the volunteers who will work to build the new home. This experience didn’t focus on our human flaws; but, when the Lord is in control He provides as glory is reflected to Him.
Having purpose, faith, and the willingness to give God the glory reflected the story in Genesis 22 of Abraham and Isaac going up the mountain to worship and how the Lord provided a lamb, caught in a bush just for them.
It will be exciting to see God at work in the construction of this new home and how in His perfect plan the sovereignty of God will be revealed.
