The Common Cup dinner sponsored by the local United Methodist churches was held last night in Xenia at the Faith Community Methodist church. There were over 200 persons attending the dinner. Dinner music was provided by the group “Four To Go.”

Following the dinner, there was a basket auction. The proceeds from the auction as well as the dinner are split this year between HFHGC and a student from Africa University the churches are sponsoring to come to the US.

An enjoyable and funny evening was had by all.

The Ron and Erna Nared family is thrilled with their new house. The Martin Luther King Junior DREAM HOME on Jasper Road was dedicated right before Christmas last year. What a wonderful way to celebrate this Holiday. Now the grass mowing begins in earnest!

The Narvella and Kimani Hicks family has moved to Main Street, Xenia. Their family includes 2 sons and 2 daughters. Needless to say, they, too, are thrilled with their new house and are in the process of truly making it a home. Both these families have expressed much gratitude to the volunteers for making their dream of home ownership possible.

Our newest partner family is Toni Lane. She has three children: Mario and Special Lane, both in college. Unique is 18 and an outstanding basketball player for Xenia High School. She hopes to get a basketball scholarship to a college in Kentucky. Toni works for Greenwood Manor in Xenia. We welcome the Lane family to our Habitat family.

After the weather broke this Spring, the foundation on Chestnut Street was dug. Rick Peters of Xenia again gave his services. The Brick Layers Union #22 of Dayton once again spent time and laid the foundation for us. The gifts of time and expertise from these professionals make the construction get off to a faster start than if our volunteers had to spend weeks doing these jobs. Many thanks go to Rick and the Block layers! Vicki and Lori have been working right along with the volunteers and great progress has been made on the house!
